sKATANA!!!

kay. just throwin' this up before i forget - little doodle from work.
decided the band is named "sKATANA"

will edit text when nintendo releases hold on soul long enough to do so.
--------
so there you go.
other names i thought of will be reserved for a 'battle of the bands' idea i might be drawing.
basically, i just started drawing random people on the right side... let it cook for a little, and on my way to work one day.. listening to melodious SKA music, i was like "hey wait a sec! i need to draw a trumpet." and voilà.

hopefully i'm being more productive this week, since a lot of random deadlines for a lot of random things i've been trying to enter all pretty much randomly fall at the end of this week. procrastination=produc...tination? almost.... almost.

BULL

so... i was gonna blog this semi-epic tale of wo in the last post, but time was running short.

speaking of running, that's exactly what i was doing at the time i was hit by cheap destiny..
i went out about... 4 miles from my house in a straight line, just running. it's good to do things like that. anyway, i decided to turn back and take the canal road all the way back to my place of dwelling. SO, i'm running on this dog infested canal, meaning everybody's dog is barking at me on their respective sides of the fences... and i've got this weird habit of doing this same whistle to every dog that barks at me - i actually started doing it about 4 or 5 years ago as an experiment. the theory is that the dogs will start to recognize your whistle, and then as time goes by, become familiar with it and finally shut up. surprisingly it works more than half the time.
anyways, i'm just taking everything in as i'm headed home... as different landmarks i spot remind me of stupid and charming memories from back in the day... i notice theses hills on my left where i remember a buffalo farm, and heavy metal coming out of the owners house - strange, yet effective way to raise buffalo. everything's going great until right about there.
i hit this fence with this giant dented sign on it that says 'NO TRESSPASSING, BEWARE OF BULL' . . . there's a faded black swastika spray painted over the front if it. i guess i'm not the only one who wasn't happy about it.
so i stand there for a little bit... i don't see any bull. i think the only bull there is, is the sign in front of me - but you get all those good lessons about not finding out the hard way when you're a kid, so i didn't tresspass. i also noticed an old bull pie or two past the fence, so i scaled the fence to this brick wall, tight-rope walked the thing until i found a good spot to fall off.. and was only about a mile or so from home.
next thing to logically do, is run from the opposite side of the fence on the canal, and see if i hit that fence without any warning. THEN we'll know where the real bull lies.
interestingly enough, that night i think i had a dream about almost getting impaled by a buffalo or something and having to wrestle it down.

i need to post some drawing action, so..
here're some good pictures i did as a missionary, for some good friends in Belgium.

*just barely got this one on the computer.. here are the lines for a pic i'm working on that Elder Bush wanted. he said anything that involves the van "the FUP," a dragon, and a princess. naturally i thought "Mariokart!"

*about.. 7 months old? drawn on the shield which sits as guardian in the majestic fortress to the amazing Shannon Egbert. complete with quebecois woodsman super hero, Elder Duchesne. sorta like gandalf and the balrag goin' down in a ball of falme. lots of fun doing this.

*about... 8 months old? as requested by Elder Frost - he and Elder Chung are taking on some arabs in grand place as an incredibly synergistic and ridiculously unfair duo of pirate/ninja.
went a little yellow trying to clean the photo up and get it on the comp (before i had photoshop) but it gives it this cool, sepia tone, heroic memory sorta look to me.

i'm definitely planning on going back to old pictures to try and splash some colors on 'em. hopefully it works out.

March 8th, actually

yeah... so this one time? i made a double post? and since i don't know how to delete posts? i thought i'd just use it for my next one.

here's some of my most recent pencil stuff, from my "blue" sketchbook. seriously though, it's blue. and serious. i try and get the same bound sketchbook - different color, every time i start a new one... for more "finished" looking drawings that need a home. i have thought about keeping a folder with computer paper in it, but then i realized that's what i did at school until i got a serious sketchbook to pack around (inspiration to carry one around came from the scottish/guatemalan drawing Don Lopez beast. he had one, so why not me?? i refer to this time period in my life as the "red" sketchbook saga. sometimes.) i don't think Don is as motivated to draw as he was during the red saga.... i dunno. it just seems that he doesn't push as deep as he use to.. but i hope i'm wrong, and he's still got a sketchbook. maybe a red one.

anyways... here are those pictures i was talking about a paragraph ago..

so - this is ridiculously top secret fan art of a dream. i wish i was the owner of it, because this dream has an intricate plot that is still progressing. and it's deep. i'd love to talk more about it... but i can't, really. this is what i imagine as the cover to volume 1... if it were a comic book...already. heh.

fan art to... Fooly Cooly. this show is crazy. i like to think i understand it pretty well, but i'm probably drawing my own conclusions to all the meaning inside it half the time - either way, the dots get connected somehow upstairs, and i like it. i had some really good ideas about how to go about drawing this more than halfway into, and so i kept going. hopefully those ideas don't collect too much dust until i forget about 'em.

and since i like posting in 3's for some reason. here's another picture to even things out.these guys were done about.... 2 and 1/2 years ago. it's interesting to look at new and old stuff side by side.... anyways, here we've got a classic RPG battle, against all odds - i'm sure they have some small part in saving the world too.

later.

smeather?

smell+weather=smeather... or smelter?? i don't know... i'll get to that after the... PICTURES!!

i think i'll keep posting pictures in 3's. just feels good for some reason.

"Leff T."

i created this little handy man for this contest that Chamba was doin' - create a character for his RandomVeus verse. too much fun to be had - so went for it, and spaced the fact that he lives in australia, and missed the deadline by a whole day. no worries. good, clean fun.
-callus armor regeneration
-double joint agility
-special: 'finger-flick-kick'

figured i'd be throwing some old favorites in here as well:

"Hoodie Ninja"

impulsively gave birth to this creation as i was staring at myself in the mirror around... dec,2004
... suddenly, a drip of revelation dropped into the puddle of my mind, rippling out into my senses, forcing my hands to carefully slide up to the drawstrings of my hoodie.PULL!cross. tie behind head... and the deed was done. awesome had been granted.

you might be seeing more of this loving creature as time progresses... being opposed by this delicious formal hoodie design i made, that i'll try and post later... that somebody is ACTUALLY making into a REAL hoodie. insane. i must get pictures.

"Pirate Ninja"

part 1 of gift art for a friend at the end of '05 that hooked our dorm up with surround sound, and LOTS of naruto episodes. the pirate ninja, the middle entity of what some may call a 'holy' war between pirates and ninjas set in place before the beginning of time to keep all creation in balance.. symbol of ultimate and bitter hate.. or sweet and sour love. depends on which side you don't take.

so anyways, back to that smeather thing. been doin' a lot of late night runs lately, and i can't help but notice an old... enchantingly familiar smell in the air again. it's sweet.. and cold. i guess the same dry weather has been lingering around here long enough it's finally found it's personality again - assimilating all collective smells in this city, and glazing them over with it's dry... cool air. sounds like a treat. sounds like smeather. i dunno.... i'm pretty sure i love it, though.

more of that, and other tings -
later.
